Death Certificates

Minnesota death certificates from 1997 to present are available at any courthouse in Minnesota. In addition, the Morrison County Recorder’s Office has death records from 1870 to 1996 for deaths which occurred in Morrison County. Contact the county of death for deaths prior to 1997. Certified copies of death records can only be issued to parties demonstrating a tangible interest in the record.

Apply

  • By phone - you may call us prior to visiting our office and we will prepare your record prior to your arrival.
  • In person - the death certificate application needs to be completed and a current photo ID presented.
  • By mail - a notarized death certificate application must be completed and returned along with the appropriate fees.

Due to vacation and/or sick days and the separation of duty policy, it may benefit you to call ahead to assure availability of staff to process your request.

Fees

  • $13 for the first certified copy
  • $6 for each additional certificate for the same record ordered at the same time  
  • Payment methods include cash, checks or money orders
